Barbara Jordan Public Service Award
Congratulations to Judge W. Jeanne Meurer who has been awarded the 2008 Barbara Jordan Public Service Award.
The Barbara Jordan Public Service Award is a key component of the forum as it recognizes a distinguished individual whose dedication to public service within Texas communities continues the work of the legendary Barbara Jordan.
This year, among many exceptional nominations, the Public Service Award selection committee determined that Judge Meurer's 19 years of experience as the 98th District Judge in Travis County, where she focused on child abuse and juvenile law cases, best exemplifies these qualifications. She is a true public servant being involved in numerous professional and community activities including the Blue Ribbon Task Force Committee for Transforming the Juvenile Justice System in Texas, the Travis County Child Abuse Task Force, and the Co-Chair of the Do the Write Thing Program. As her nomination expressed she is a true advocate for children and youth in Travis County.
She has asked that the financial contribution for this award to donated to CASA, a non-profit that advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system.
The Award Committee thanks everyone who nominated this year and we look forward to learning more about so many outstanding public servants in Texas again as part of the 2009 Forum.
